Funkstille

Today we´ve had three Interviews with some Bundeswehr-officers. Press-staff. One from SFOR, one from UNMIG and the third one from the Einsatzführungsstab for OEF located in Geltow. They didn´t tell us anything new. Except this Djibouti-guy. This was very interesting – behind the scenes. We had a Hauptmann at our office, the other officers sat in Pristina, Djibouti and Geltow. Imagine: Bundeswehr, one of the most modern armies in the world. High-tech-defense force with state-of-the-art-technology, but they weren´t even able to reach Djibouti. This Hauptmann tried more than 4 different places – nothing. In the end we called a British correspondent down there, who gave his mobile to this PR-officer, some Fregatten-Kapitän. Sick. Even the headquarters emergency line was out of order. 250 German soldiers, left alone in the war on terror, in one of the most dangerous regions of the world. Today, German marine-ships are on their way home, they´ll be replaced by some Lockheed P-3 surveillance and reconnaissance aircrafts. I think, I´m one of the first to know. After the interview this PR-staff-guy was afraid, that his talking would be published. “Sie veröffentlichen das?! Aber erst nach dem 28. Juli, dann bin ich hier unten weg.” Interesting. The other officers didn´t answer half of our questions due to possible political-statements.
